Honoring Spain’s Contributions to American Independence
American Independence would not have been possible without the support of Spain. As part of the Virginia Museum of History & Culture’s 250th Initiative, join the VMHC and The Queen Sofía Spanish Institute for a special evening commemorating the Spanish politicians, generals, and merchants who played a vital role shaping the outcome of the American Revolution. The evening’s keynote address will be given by Dr. Gonzalo M. Quintero Saravia, a senior Spanish diplomat, author of several books on 18th-century Spanish American history, and a former Fellow at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University. Highlights include: Remarks from Spanish dignitaries; lecture from renowned expert Dr. Gonzalo M. Quintero Saravia; special display of original VMHC manuscripts related to Spain’s involvement in the American Revolution; a special reception featuring Spanish-inspired hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and music; and after-hours access to the VMHC’s exhibits, including, Revolutionary Allies: Foreign Friends of American.
