Blockbusters, Family Favorites, and Classics!
It seems that life is getting a little closer to a normal routine (for the vaccinated at least) and so is Broadway in Richmond, which is today announcing its 2021-2022 season with three Richmond premieres, two Broadway classics, and a family family favorite – all performing at Altria Theater.
Cindy Creasy, spokesperson for Broadway in Richmond, had this to say about the return of Broadway to the Richmond stage: “Coming out of this extended intermission, we are thrilled to offer a strong, six-show season and to maintain our full-week engagements. Richmond remains a premier stop for national Broadway tours and this season we have such a great mix of classic and new shows. There is something for everyone and we look forward to welcoming audiences back at Altria Theater.”
The season kicks off in October with the Richmond premiere of Anastasia. The show tells the story of a brave young woman who sets out to discover the mystery of her past, transporting audiences from the twilight of the Russian Empire to Paris in the 1920s.
That will be followed in February by the Richmond premiere of Come From Away, the true story about a small town in Newfoundland that welcomed 7,000 stranded passengers.
Families will be happy to see the return of Disney’s The Lion King for a two-week run in March, followed by Lerner & Loew’s My Fair Lady in May.
In June, Jesus Christ Superstar will inspire audiences, and in September, look for the Richmond premiere of Tina Fey’s hit musical, Mean Girls.
Broadway In Richmond will also present two shows rescheduled from the 2019-2020 season, Fiddler On The Roof and The Band’s Visit.
Subscriptions go on sale Monday, June 28 at 10:00 a.m. allowing current subscribers to renew, and new subscribers to purchase their season tickets. Individual show tickets will be announced as each performance approaches. Group sales opportunities will be available for all shows. Subscribers are guaranteed seats for the return of Hamilton in the 2022-2023 season.
All presentations this season have eight performances except for Disney’s The Lion King, which has fifteen. To learn about packages, call the subscriber hotline, 804-592-3401 or visit BroadwayInRichmond.com.
