What you need:
- Cardboard tube
- Assorted construction paper
- Markers, crayons, colored pencils
- Assorted cardboard scraps
- String or ribbon, about 12 inches long
- Small stick, about 12 inches long
- Tape and glue
- Scissors
What you do:
- Choose a piece of construction paper that is both wide and long enough to cover the cardboard tube. Glue or tape this paper around the tube.
- Cut three triangles (all three the same size) from the cardboard scraps.
- For extra color, use one of the cardboard triangles to trace six triangles on construction paper. Cut out all six paper triangles and glue or tape them onto each side of the three cardboard triangles.
- Draw three small guidelines on the tube, equally spaced apart. The length of these lines should be the same length as one of the sides of the cardboard triangles. Cut on these three lines.
- Gently insert each cardboard triangle into the three slits and add tape or glue to hold in place.
- Create a cone shape using construction paper and trim the paper corners to make an even edge. Stick this cone to the end of the cardboard tube. Add glue or tape to hold in place.
- Add any other color embellishments to your rocket with marker, crayons, or colored pencils.
- Tie a knot to one end of the string or ribbon. Tape this knot to the tip of the rocket’s cone.
- Tie your stick to the other end of the string/ribbon to create a handle.
- Hold onto the stick and run, raising the rocket high into the sky
