In a heartfelt message to the Weinstein JCC community, CEO Orly Lewis, with a remarkable 25 years of experience within the organization, reaffirms the JCC’s unwavering commitment to serving the community and ensuring its continued relevance. Lewis proudly announces the completion of the initial phase of the ambitious fundraising campaign, “Building a Bright Future Together,” aimed at securing the JCC’s future.
“Building a Bright Future Together” will fortify the community, embolden the Center to take decisive actions, and equip it to confront future challenges. Thanks to a generous contribution and a challenge match from the Weinstein-Jecklin family, along with full board participation and support from gracious donors, the initial goal has already been achieved.
“The campaign is a testament to our dedication to enhancing the community’s experience at the JCC,” Lewis shares. “The revitalization plan includes modernizing the Dora L. Lewis Family & Child Development Center, enhancing the acclaimed preschool, and expanding capacity. Significant upgrades to Kids’ Place and Camp Hilbert will ensure more children benefit from enriching after-school programs and immersive summer experiences. The fitness center and aquatics facilities will be transformed to offer state-of-the-art amenities that meet evolving wellness needs. Additionally, a modernized entryway and the introduction of the region’s only Kosher Grab & Go Market will enhance accessibility and community connection.”
Founded in 1946, JCC is Building Brighter Future
Since 1946, the Weinstein JCC has been a cornerstone of the Richmond community, initially serving the Jewish community and expanding its embrace to all. Today, the JCC proudly hosts nearly 7,000 members and countless visitors annually, uniting diverse backgrounds in shared experiences and growth.
“Our programs consistently excel,” Lewis continues. “From our top-rated early childhood education to Camp Hilbert, consistently recognized as Richmond’s premier summer camp, we foster growth and community. However, our facilities must evolve to meet growing demand and ensure our standards endure.”
The comprehensive renovations and upgrades are projected to take 18 to 24 months, executed in carefully planned phases to minimize disruption. “We’ve already started transforming the former Jewish Community Federation of Richmond space, expanding our award-winning preschool program by increasing its capacity by 14 students per year,” Lewis explains. “We’ll keep the community updated with progress reports and pictures.”
Highlighting the importance of courage and optimism, Lewis reaffirms the JCC’s role as a leading provider of educational, recreational, and wellness services in Richmond. “Our vision is clear, and our commitment is stronger than ever,” she emphasizes.
Expressing gratitude, Lewis acknowledges the invaluable support of key partners like the Jewish Community Federation of Richmond and the Richmond Jewish Foundation. “Their unwavering support, along with the dedication of our professionals, colleagues, and lay leaders, has been instrumental during these challenging times,” she says.
The campaign’s public launch on June 20 at a community-wide celebration at the Weinstein JCC marks a significant milestone. The event will not only showcase the JCC’s dedication to excellence but also offer a glimpse into its future plans.
With immense gratitude, Lewis announces, “We’ve raised nearly 80% of the funds needed for our ambitious $8.5M Capital Campaign. Now, we’re reaching out to our beloved community to help us achieve our final goal.”
“The public launch of this campaign is a significant moment for us,” Lewis states. “With the community’s support, we aim to provide enriching experiences and growth opportunities for generations to come.”
