Virginia Rep is thrilled to announce the titles coming to the stage during its 2026-2027 Season.

“This season reflects what excites us most about live theatre right now: bold storytelling, pure joy, surprising spectacle, and unforgettable nights shared together,” says artistic director, Rick Hammerly. “Featuring three plays that appeared on Broadway within the past three years, a high-energy musical celebration, an imaginative underwater adventure for young audiences, a brilliantly chaotic comedy, and the return of a beloved holiday tradition, this lineup invites audiences of every generation to share in the excitement, laughter, and connection that only theatre can bring,”

Virginia Rep’s 2026 – 2027 Season

The Play That Goes Wrong

Where: November Theater, Arenstein Stage

When: September 16 – October 18, 2026

Called one of “the funniest plays Broadway has ever seen!” (The Huffington Post), The Play That Goes Wrong will open season on the Arenstein Stage in the November Theater. This slapstick comedy asks if the show must go on — if the set is falling down around you.  It’s opening night for the cast of Cornley Drama Society’s newest production, The Murder at Haversham Manor! But as soon as the curtain goes up, everything that can go wrong…does! Physical comedy, non-stop pandemonium, and a cast of increasingly frantic actors, it’s a night of theatre the audience will never forget — even if the cast wishes they did.

A Christmas Carol

Virginia Rep A Christmas Carol

Where: November Theater, Arenstein Stage

When: November 18 – December 27, 2026

“I can confidently say this is as good as it gets…” (RVA Magazine, 2025) After its hit run in 2025, VA Rep’s A Christmas Carol returns to Richmond with an extended run! Experience the transformation of Ebenezer Scrooge, as he’s visited by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future—and rediscovers the joy and true meaning of the Holiday season.

Plaza Suite

Where: Hanover Tavern

When: December 9, 2026 – January 17, 2027

Three couples staying at the iconic Plaza Hotel. Two versatile actors. One unforgettable night of comedy. This December, check in for Neil Simon’s dazzling classic, Plaza Suite, a sharp, fast-moving trio of stories where love, marriage, and chaos collide in wildly different but equally hilarious ways—all inside one legendary hotel suite.

John Proctor is the Villain

Where: November Complex, Theatre Gym

When: March 3 – April 4, 2027

Who gets believed—and who gets burned? Five girls in a one-stoplight Georgia town start reading The Crucible in honors English, but it doesn’t stay on the page for long. Rumors start flying, scandals erupt, and suddenly the drama is way too real. Lines blur between truth and fiction and, ultimately, the question isn’t just what’s true…it’s who gets to decide.

Fresh off its Tony-nominated Broadway run, John Proctor is the Villain, is a new play that is sharp, fast, and a little bit ruthless—blending biting humor with raw, unfiltered emotion.

I Need That

Where: Hanover Tavern

When: March 24 – April 25, 2027

A chronic hoarder, Sam has a lifetime of memories carefully preserved in his home — even if it looks like a dangerous mess to everyone else. After a court order to clean up, Sam is forced to confront his fear of forgetting, and face the possibility of losing the very objects that anchor him to his past. As pressure mounts from family, authorities, and time itself, what starts as a battle over boxes becomes something much deeper.  I Need That is a fiercely funny and unexpectedly moving new play, and a poignant look at love, loss, and all the things we cling to in order to feel whole.

Finding Nemo

Jessie Bogese Arts Experience

Where: November Theater, Arenstein Stage

When: April 7 – May 2, 2027

When young Nemo swims too far from home, his overprotective dad sets off on an unforgettable journey across the ocean to find him. Along the way they meet memorable friends – like the forgetful but lovable Dory -face big challenges, and discover that courage sometimes means letting go.

Packed with humor, heart, and toe-tapping music, Finding Nemo is a joyful celebration of family, friendship, and bravery—no matter how big the ocean gets.

Hairspray

Where: November Theater, Arenstein Stage

When: June 16 – August 1, 2027

Big Hair and even Bigger Dreams! 1960s rebel, Tracy Turnblad – determined to get a spot dancing on the Corny Collins show – is taking Baltimore by storm. But, what starts as a journey to chase her own dreams, quickly turns into a quest for helping others achieve theirs.  Packed with crowd-favorite songs like “Good Morning Baltimore” and “You Can’t Stop the Beat,” spectacular choreography, and larger-than-life characters, Hairspray celebrates standing up, speaking out, and dancing like no one is watching.
