Kid’s Eye Review: 5 Reasons to See “Frozen” at Altria Theater

If your family is anything like mine, you all know the lyrics to every song from Disney’s Frozen, the movie. Because of this, going to see Frozen, the musical from Broadway in Richmond, is a no-brainer. My mom and I got to see the show, and I suggest you see it, too! If you’re old enough – it’s recommended for ages six and up.

Here are five reasons to see Frozen at Altria Theater:

The Inspiring Characters

Anna is my favorite character because she doesn’t let a man define her. She is sassy, funny, and stands up for herself. Elsa is beautiful and independent. She loves her sister so much she will give anything to protect her. I know how she feels, because I feel the same about my little brother. From Sven the reindeer, we can see how loyal and loving animals are. Lastly, Olaf is silly, and gives lots of life advice that we can all use! “Some people are worth melting for!”

Breathtaking Sets

When you see this show, you see how important a crew is to a play. Without the stunning sets, the play would not have been the same. I especially loved how Anna and Elsa’s beds could roll. And, the ice mountain that Anna has to climb with Kristoff looks so realistic!

The Witty Dialogue

Anna made me laugh the most with her quick replies. She stands up for her sister when the Duke of Weselton insists on dancing with her using her quick wit. Even Olaf, who doesn’t talk that much, made us laugh. “I like warm hugs!”

The Gorgeous Costumes

Elsa’s coronation outfit is pretty, but there is a magical moment when her costume and her hair changes in an instant! Her light blue gown sparkles on stage, and she starts to show her heart at the same time. Elsa’s cloak is the perfect accessory to her ice-climbing outfit. Also, Sven (Kristoff’s sidekick reindeer) is actually only ONE person. (You can read more about that in this article.) His costume was incredible! He could even open and close his eyes.

Catchy Music and Upbeat Choreography

The music and choreography fit together like puzzle pieces. My favorite dance is to “Love is an Open Door” with Anna and Hans. Anna’s pirouettes are perfect, but the best is when Kristoff flips her! Caroline Bowman, who plays Elsa, is an amazing singer! When she sang “I Can’t Lose You,” I cried. Be ready for some new songs, not just the familiar ones from the movie.

Here are tips for families going to see Disney’s Frozen at Altria Theater:

1) For young children, pick up a booster for their seat on your way into the theater.

2) For a treat that fits with the show’s theme, try the special drink, “The Snow Queen,” a mix of Starry soda and blue raspberry syrup.

3) You should wear comfortable clothes. Costumes are welcome, as long as you’re comfortable, because the show is over two hours long, including a twenty-minute intermission.

Disney’s Frozen runs now through Sunday, October 22, at Altria Theater. For showtimes, tickets, and information about digital lottery tickets, student tickets, and age recommendations, visit BroadwayinRichmond.com and AltriaTheater.com.
