The Henrico County office of Virginia Cooperative Extension is accepting enrollment in SMART Scapes, a program that helps residents assess their home landscape and offers guidance on planting, pruning and mulching.
For a $10 fee, Master Gardener volunteers will visit a home, analyze the landscape and prepare reference materials customized for the property. The materials will include a property map, details on current plantings, general gardening information and more.
SMART Scapes follows the concepts of SMART – Soil test, Match plants to site, Arranging plants, Rain and irrigation and Trouble-free maintenance. The concepts use best management practices to promote the development of a beautiful, healthy and sustainable landscape. Turf grasses are not assessed through SMART Scapes.
Registration for SMART Scapes will remain open through Monday, Sept. 30. More information, including an enrollment form, is available online. Information also is available by visiting henrico.us/extension or calling (804) 501-5160.
