Visit VOTE411.org for Candidate Information and Helpful Voting Tips

LeagueofWomenVoters[Richmond, VA] – League of Women Voters of Metropolitan Richmond Area (LWVRMA), Voter Service Director Jacquelin Wade today urged voters in the Metropolitan Richmond area to prepare for the upcoming general election by visiting VOTE411.org to find their polling place, check voting hours, and learn more about the candidates, and read tips about voting in Virginia.

“Voters in central Virginia need simple, helpful tools to help them navigate the voting process and proceed to Election Day,” said Wade. “VOTE411.org is the nation’s premiere online election resource. LWVRMA has provided information on the candidates running for office in our community on VOTE411.org so that it can serve as a resource for all of Metro Richmond voters. Simply enter your address to receive your customized voter information.” Information is available on VOTE411.org for all three candidates for U.S. Senate; candidates for Congressional Districts 3, 4, and 7; the Special elections for Clerk of Court in Chesterfield and Richmond; for Henrico’s Three Chopt District School Board, and Virginia Senate District 16 and for the proposed Virginia Constitutional Amendment.

The League of Women Voters of Virginia, in conjunction with AARP hosted “The People’s Debate” which was televised live over the public access channels and CBS Channel 6. In August this year, LWVRMA sponsored a Voter Registration Certification Training class for organizational leaders, community activists and individual who conduct voter registration drives. This class was taught by Garry Ellis from Virginia’s Department of Elections.

Throughout the year, LWVRMA provides over 125 voter registration applications each month to newly naturalized citizens at the US Federal Courthouse. New this year, LWVRMA provided voter registration information and absentee ballots for students at both the Parham Road and Downtown campuses of J. S. Reynolds Community College. Recently, LWVRMA provided voter registration and voter education information to a senior Henrico County Girl Scout troop to facilitate them earning their GS voter education badge.

“This year, millions of voters will head to the polls and stand up for what matters most to our communities and our lives,” said Ms. Wade. “The best thing we can all do is urge everyone to prepare by visiting VOTE411.org and go to the polls and vote.

Wade said that elected officials have incredible influence over the issues and policies that affect our families and communities most. “Election Day is our chance to weigh in and take control over what is most important to us.”

The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy thorough education and advocacy. Membership is open to men and women of all ages. With 800 affiliates across the county, the League is one of the nation’s most trusted organizations.
