Pamplin Historical Park and the National Museum of the Civil War Soldier is offering $1.00 general daily admission throughout the summer until Labor Day, September 3, 2018. This reduced admission rate will allow all people an opportunity to access this facility and learn about history from the Antebellum period, including the institution of slavery, through the Civil War.
Dollar admission has been made possible in part by The Bank of Southside Virginia and through private donations.
The Park strives to share the stories of civilians, enslaved people, and common soldiers with all people as their stories are now part of the American experience, which belongs to all Americans. All summer long, visitors can share in the experiences in the museums, at four historic homes and in the Park with new devices from Orpheo. These devices provide audio and images on a five inch screen at over eighty locations throughout the 424-acre campus. Additional focus weekends will offer unique historical interpretation programs.
During last year’s dollar days admission event, Executive Director Jerry Desmond spoke with one family of seven including four children ages five to twelve. Desmond states, “Seeing my name 
tag, the father thanked me and explained that he had lived in Dinwiddie County all of this life. For the past twenty years, he had driven by the Park every day on his way to work but had never stopped in,” said Desmond. The park visitor said before the seasonal discount, admission price was too high. On a regular day, it would have cost the family more than $75 to explore Pamplin Park. Instead, it only $7.
