MegMedinaBooks_FCharlottesville, VA –Virginia Foundation for the Humanities’ Center for the Book has been invited once again to participate in the National Book Festival September 21 and 22, 2013. Located on the National Mall, the NBF draws more than 200,000 each year and is hosted by the Library of Congress and co-chairs Barack and Michelle Obama.

The VFH Center for the Book will be in the Pavilion of the States all day Saturday, September 21, promoting Virginia and the state’s literary and literacy resources. This year the Center has selected children’s book Tía Isa Wants A Car by Virginia author Meg Medina to represent Virginia. Information about the book and other recommended books in the Pavilion of the States. More information about Meg Medina and her books can be found at megmedina.com

The VFH Center for the Book’s appearance is supported by the VFH, Library of Virginia, National Endowment for the Humanties, and Chief Officers of State Librarians Association.

Virginia Foundation for the Humanities (VFH), established in 1974, encourages discovery and connection through the humanities by supporting and producing programs for a wide public audience. It works with individuals and communities to explore the past, confront issues of the present, and discover a promising future. For more information about VFH, visit VirginiaHumanities.org.

“A quick note to say muchisimas gracias to the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, which will be part of the 2013 National Book Festival September 21 – 22. This year, the Foundation has selected Tía Isa Wants a Car to represent Virginia at the Pavilion of the States.  How’s THAT for a surprise?

Here’s the press release. [VFH Invited to National Book Festival.]

The National Book Festival will be held on the mall in Washington DC.  Free and open to the public…just a gigantic gathering of book lovers. I’ll be at the tent for a little while on Saturday enjoying the joyous mayhem. Otherwise, you’ll find me strolling around and catching some of my favorite authors. (That, and buying too many books, as usual!)  Amazing lineup, to be sure.”
