In support of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, Virginia Urology is proud to partner with the Richmond Flying Squirrels, WRVA NewsRadio and Sports Radio 910 to offer free PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) screenings during the home game on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at The Diamond.

Fans attending the game will have the opportunity to receive a complimentary PSA screening on site, administered by medical professionals from Virginia Urology. Screenings will be available beginning at 4 p.m. prior to gates opening at 5:30 p.m. and will continue through the early innings of the game. The first 50 men to undergo a screening will receive free admission to the game.

“Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer among men in the United States, with one in eight men being diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime,” said Ryan Barnes, M.D., president of Virginia Urology. “Fortunately, when caught early, it is one of the most treatable forms of cancer. PSA screenings are a simple blood test that can help detect prostate cancer early — often before symptoms appear.”

Men over age 50, and those over 40 with risk factors such as African American heritage or a family history of prostate cancer, are especially encouraged to be screened. Early detection saves lives.  Convenient access to screenings helps break down barriers and encourages men to take charge of their health.

The free screening combines community, education and proactive health care in a fun, family-friendly environment.

“Taking care of your health isn’t just about you, it’s about being there for the people who love you. This incredible partnership makes it easier for men to take a simple step toward prevention, offering free, potentially life-saving screenings right where people are. I’m proud to see Richmond stepping up for men’s health and deeply grateful to these awesome partners for making it happen.”, said Danny Avula M.D., Richmond Mayor.
