I’d like to welcome you and thank you for picking up our inaugural issue. We’re excited and honored to bring Richmond’s parents this valuable resource for area families. As our editorial mission states, Richmond Family Magazine is produced monthly to help parents build healthy families. It’s our goal to inspire, enlighten, inform, and entertain our readers, and feature editorial content in each issue that appeals to parents with children of all ages.

If anyone who knows me is reading this and hasn’t seen me in a few years, they are surely rubbing their eyes in disbelief… Margaret Thompson, publishing a parenting magazine? Yes, what a difference a few years make. You see, four years ago, I was a card-carrying member of the “I’m Never Having Kids Club.” “I like to borrow and return,” I’d say. “I’m way too selfish with my time,” I’d say. “I LOVE to sleep too much,” I’d say. Well, three years, two baby boys, and countless diapers later, here I am, singing a very different song.

Yet it is the “old me” who was disappointed to see All About Kids Magazine disappear from the racks last year. I AM selfish with my time, and I DO love sleep (and okay, there are times when I’d still like to borrow and return, but I’m relatively sure I would miss my kids after a few days). So the thought of NOT having a one-stop resource for local events, entertaining and informative articles, gift and book suggestions, and more, made me sad, and frankly, a little miffed. So after much research, number-crunching, convincing of doubters, and negotiating, my desperate need for a consolidated source of local information, parenting guidance, and so much more, is becoming a reality once again.

We’ll have the same great content the loyal All About Kids readers loved, along with exciting new departments – like my favorite, What’s Cooking? On pg. 22 from You’ve Got Supper! Easy, delicious recipes that the whole family will love – just what I’ve been searching for.

I’m not sure this new venture will get me that sleep I so love and miss, but I guess sleep was for the “old me.” The “new me” is already working on the next issue of Richmond Family Magazine.

Fondly,
Margaret Thompson
