Hooray for Jellyfish!

Summer is the perfect time to learn about and craft creatures that live in the ocean.

What you need:

• Yarn in at least two different colors
• Googly eyes (buttons, construction paper)
• Scissors
• Glue
• Pencil

What you do:

1 Wrap the yarn around four fingers of your hand, leaving your thumb out. Wrap about one hundred times. Remove the wrapped yarn and set aside.

2 Cut a 5-inch length of yarn and tie it around the center of the wrapped yarn. Tie tightly and double-knot the yarn.

3 Cut through the looped yarn on both sides. Be sure to cut through every piece of yarn. (You might need to ask an adult for sharp scissors.) Shape the pom-pom by trimming the yarn to even out a sphere for the jellyfish head.

4 For the tentacles, cut several 12-inch pieces of yarn.

5 Dab some glue near the middle of the pom-pom, and use the eraser end of a pencil to spread the glue and attach the yarn tentacle. Repeat this step for the rest of the tentacles. You could also tie the tentacles to the pom-pom yarn.

6 Glue the googly eyes or construction paper eyes to the jellyfish head, or tie on shank buttons (not shown).
