Richmond’s Local Sports Teams Make it Easy and Affordable for Families!

Richmond is home to several sports teams, from Division I Athletics, to professional minor league teams, making it easy to support our local athletes.

Many teams offer specials or discounts on children’s admission, so purchasing tickets for the whole family won’t break the bank. Not to mention, a few teams have taken great strides to make their events fun and welcoming for families and children.

Bounce, Play and Spectate at the Tri-City Chili Peppers

The Tri-City Chili Peppers, of the Coastal Plain League, begin their season on May 25th. Games are played at Shepherd Stadium in Colonial Heights.

Blaze’s Kid’s Club, for ages 4-11 offers children two pre-game warmups with the Chili Pepper players and coaches, 5 general admission tickets, and my son’s favorite…access to the kid’s zone. The kid’s zone is filled with bounce houses and often special visitors, like Spiderman!

Get Rowdy with the VCU Rams

For children ages 12 and under, the Junior Rowdy Rams program offers free admission to all ticketed home games (excluding Men’s Basketball). It costs absolutely nothing to join, and even comes with a free Chick-Fil-A sandwich, while supplies last.

Make Memories with Nutsy and Nutasha

Free to join, for ages 14 and under, the Squirrel Tails Kid’s Club, offers free admission to all home, Sunday games, giveaways and two opportunities to go onto the baseball field: pre-game catches before the game, and running the bases after the game.

The fun won’t stop when baseball season ends! The Squirrel Tails Kid’s Club members are also invited to exclusive events throughout the year, like the popular Squirrel-O-Ween held in October.

Cheer for the Spiders at University of Richmond

There are many benefits to UR’s Kid’s Club, for children in 8th grade and younger: free tickets to home events, free t-shirt, games and activities in the Family Fun Zone prior to games, and more!

The Family Fun Zone features face painting, bounce houses and other games for children. My family loves taking advantage of the kid’s club for both the football and basketball games. But, for many other sports, like women’s soccer and baseball – tickets are completely free for everyone!

Whether you’re an athlete yourself, or you simply enjoy the atmosphere of an exciting game, check out these kid’s clubs to save money and have fun supporting Richmond’s sports teams.
