At a time when most grocery stores are owned by big out-of-town corporations, I’m proud to say that Tom Leonard’s is still locally and family owned!
My Dad opened our doors in 2004 with a simple mission: to treat our customers like neighbors, offer the freshest food we could find, and save our customers money. That’s still what drives us today.
One of the ways we keep that promise is by working directly with local farms, not through distributors, distribution centers, or warehouses. This time of year, we’re especially proud of our partnership with local farms like, Hanover Vegetable Farm, just a few miles down the road. The Sears family has been farming in Hanover for generations, and we’ve built a great relationship with them over the last 20 years.
Fresh and Local
When we say “fresh and local,” we mean it. Whether it’s tomatoes, sweet corn, squash, peaches, berries, or green beans, there’s a good chance it was picked just hours before it hits our shelves. That’s what makes our produce taste so good — it hasn’t spent days on a truck or weeks in storage. It’s fresh, local, and grown by family farmers who care. You’d own the farm to get it any fresher!
Supporting local farms means supporting Virginia families — including yours and mine. It keeps our community strong and helps ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy the rich and diverse agricultural tradition we’re lucky to have here in Central Virginia.
So the next time you’re shopping for fruits and vegetables, I hope you’ll stop by and taste the difference. My team and I are in the store every day, and we’re here to make sure you get the quality you deserve, just like we’d expect for our own families. If I wouldn’t put it on my family’s table, you won’t find it in our store.
