“Let’s Get Curious” is Clicking with Kids at the Science Museum of Virginia

The insatiable curiosity of Curious George – the little monkey who captured the imagination and hearts of millions of children and adults for sixty-five years – comes to life in the new Let’s Get Curious exhibit at the Science Museum of Virginia.

Based on H.A. and Margret Rey’s classic stories and the popular PBS KIDS television series, Curious George’s world jumps off the pages and screen before your very eyes. Take a journey through George’s neighborhood where he lives with his best friend, the Man with the Yellow Hat, and explore the familiar places and beloved characters you know and love.

Like George, children are naturally curious and constantly exploring the world around them. “Curiosity is one of the most important foundations of all scientific investigation and central to the Museum’s mission,” says Timshel Purdum, director of playful learning and inquiry.

The activities throughout this new exhibition invite families to play and learn together, just like George, through direct experience and problem solving. Curious George: Let’s Get Curious! is a highly-interactive experience that gives younger children the opportunity to explore science, engineering and math concepts by building a whirligig at George’s farm, counting bananas at George’s local market and so much more.

This exhibition demonstrates the science of everyday life and will inspire you to seek out STEM lessons in unexpected places. Count the leaves as they fall from a tree, have a child help make cookies, measure how tall something is in bananas. These are simple, but fun STEM learning opportunities for young children, who are equipped to learn through observation and investigation.

This special exhibition opens January 19, 2019 and runs through September 15, and is included with admission, which is $15 for adults, $13.50 for youth and seniors, and $10 for preschool age children. Children two and under are free.

Learn more about this exhibition at smv.org.
